Safety standards for towing and mooring operations

The Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) has rolled out new mandates, along with comprehensive guidelines, aimed at enhancing the safety standards for towing and mooring operations. This move addresses the rising concerns over hazardous incidents, some with dire consequences, during mooring and unmooring procedures.

The amendments, enriching the SOLAS Regulation II-1/3-8, are set to be operational from 1 January 2024. These regulations will be relevant to vessels constructed from this date forward.
